St. Louis School LB/DL Kamalei Correa (Honolulu, HI) had narrowed his list to Utah and Boise State heading into his visit to The Blue just last weekend. The Bronco coaching staff did an excellent job of showing Correa where he would fit in the program and received his commitment just a couple days later. So, what put Boise State over the top?

"They do things differently than most schools," he said. "I loved the coaching staff and the whole football program. They have one of the best programs in the nation and a great defense too."

"The defensive staff made me feel like they had a spot just for me," he stated. "They showed me the film from previous games and some old tape. I definitely could see myself playing there. I got a great vibe from all of them."

"I got to sit down with Coach Petersen too," said Correa. "He gave me the rundown, the expectations, and how I'll get my degree before anything. He's a very different coach, more laid back, and doesn't show a lot of emotion. He knows what he's talking about and he's all about taking the program to an elite level. Overall, he's just a great guy."

Early on, Correa (6'3, 230) was projected to play DT but has lost about 30 pounds since that time and was recruited by Boise State to play the hybrid-LB/DL position.

"I'll play what they call the Stud-LB position," he said. "It's the same position as Shea McClellin," he added.

"I called Coach Petersen the day before Thanksgiving and committed," said Correa. "At first, he asked me to make the right decision for me and be sure of it. He asked me if I was sure and if it was really what I want to do. I told him it was and he was really excited. He and all of the coaches started running around the office. You could tell that he was out of breath. It was great."

"I'm 100% committed."

He went on to say that it feels as if a weight was lifted off his shoulders.

"Oh yeah, definitely a weight lifted off my shoulders," he said. "My mind was going crazy on the airplane. There were times when I couldn't sleep and it got to be real stressful. I just started praying and I realized that this was where I needed to be."

So, what can Bronco fans expect to see from Kamalei Correa?

"I'm going to try my best to leave it all on the field," he said. "You can always count on me to give my best effort," he added.

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Kamalei Correa.
